Senior Capstone made using Blender. Edited with Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects.
Artist Statement:
For my senior project, I created a 3D animation focusing on the United States' various interventions in Latin America. To make my 3D animation, I used Blender for all the 3D elements. I used After Effects and Premiere Pro for all of my editing. Photoshop was also used for various 2D elements.
The interventions that my project focuses on include funding coups to overthrow democratically elected leaders, which led to many deaths and wars that lasted many years. My project focuses mainly on Guatemala and how the United States and The United Fruit Company(now known as Chiquita) overthrew the government in Guatemala for profit—leading to the Guatemalan Civil War that lasted until the 90s which caused the deaths of over 200,000 people. The banana is a recurring visual in my project, representing both the actual events that The United Fruit Company caused and also a representation of greed and control that is often seen by the United States government.
My mother was born in Guatemala, and being half-Guatemalan, I feel that these events are important to share. I wanted to share my thoughts and ideas regarding US intervention. This project can help people learn about the events and see how people’s lives were affected.
